Who did you turn to, when you last needed help?
For many young people, the answer is ‘nobody’. Every day, Muslim Youth Helpline (MYH) answers calls from young people suffering through isolation and loneliness, with issues ranging from anxiety and depression through to child abuse and Islamophobia.
MYH takes calls from youth in those dark moments, when they feel alone, abandoned, or isolated. Many of our callers have nowhere else to turn. The work we do here is meaningful, important and unique. There is no other helpline like ours out there for British Muslim youth every day of the year.
This is why it hurts to say that MYH is in trouble. We are currently bringing in half of what we need to spend to survive through the rest of the year. We want to keep this service running for those who have nowhere else to turn, but we need your help.
We are a service, so our biggest costs are salaries and technology. Rent would be a major cost for us, but we’ve managed to secure an 87% saving in rent, thanks to a generous landlord. We believe we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of costs, and have made significant savings over the last few months. What we need now is to raise our income, and that’s where you come in.
This is a service set up by community members, receiving no government funding, and run on a lot of goodwill and strong values of non-judgement and confidentiality.
Our guiding Hadith is “The best of actions are to gladden the heart of a human, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten sorrow and to remove the wrongs of the oppressed” - Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
Please help us relieve someone’s burden this Ramadan.
