THE MYH STORY

MYH milestones - 2001 to 2018:

  • 2001 (September): 18 year old Mohammed Sadiq Mamdani, with the help of his friends Haidar Abdali and Yasser Madani, launches the MuslimYouth Helpline (MYH) from his bedroom.

  • 2002 (December): The official service is launched with 14 Helpline workers. The service was open for just fifteen hours, two days a week at MYH’s first office in Wembley Park.

  • 2003 (September): MYH employs its first paid member of staff.

  • 2003 (October): MYH launches a national free phone number.

  • 2004 (October): MYH launches www.muslimyouth.net as Britain’s first online peer support site for Muslim youth.

  • 2004: The Prison Campaign was launched as the inaugural campaign for muslimyouth.net and was called ‘Behind Bars’. The campaign sent 1,053 gift packs to Muslims prisoners during Ramadan containing messages of support from the Muslim community.

  • From 2009: MYH begins hiring multiple paid staff to oversee the Helpline for the first time, improving the quality of service provision to clients. The launch of the marketing department led to a significant increase in call numbers and tens of thousands of calls later, MYH continues to offer support to thousands of Muslims across the globe.
